Gretchen Anderson, Professor of Biochemistry at Indiana University South Bend, has been active in implementing new ideas for teaching biochemistry both in the laboratory setting and in the classroom. In the classroom, she has significantly reorganized standard textbook material to bring practical applications of organic chemistry and biochemistry principles in the nursing and pre-health professions. In the teaching laboratory, she guides students in applied research and service to the scientific community. She has been using podcasts and videos for mobile devices for several years in her classes.
Gretchen earned her PhD in biochemistry at the University of Minnesota and did post-doctoral work at The Ohio State University with Russ Hille. Her current research projects include protein biochemistry, with particular focus on metallo-enzymes.
Ann Bell received her B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa, a library media endorsement from the University of Montana, and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Hawaii. She has completed postgraduate work at Drake University and the University of Northern Iowa. She was a high school medial specialist for twenty years and currently teaches two online courses for the University of Wisconsin-Stout, mLearning: Using Mobile Technologies to Enhance Learning, and Implementing Educational Technology Innovations. Ann has written three books: Creating Digital Video in Your School; Handheld Computers in Schools and Media Centers, and Exploring Web 2.0: Second Generation Interactive Tools.
Kyle Bowen is director of informatics at Purdue University, where he leads a development group focused on creating innovative applications within teaching, learning, and research. Kyle recently led development of Hotseat and Mixable – two new social networking powered tools that enable students to collaborate via Twitter or Facebook both inside and outside of the classroom.
Author of the Exploring Dreamweaver series of books, Kyle has also contributed to, or served as technical director for, more than 20 books within the areas of Web design, development and usability. His work has been featured by the New York Times, USA Today, TIME, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. His broad range of experience includes developing Web strategies, applications, and instructional media within industry, government and higher education.
Brandon Bowersox is the chief technology strategist for OJC and its clients. He guides teams in selecting and designing effective software solutions. Because he integrates the perspectives of a manager, programmer, and end-user, he advocates for technology solutions that are reliable, user-friendly, and standards-compliant. He has spearheaded OJC’s efforts to implement cost-effective usability engineering, web standards and accessibility, and rigorous quality assurance. Brandon has also served as the project manager and chief engineer for developing the Art Lives Here iPhone app — a comprehensive community arts calendar to mobile smartphone users.
Jonathan Finkelstein is the founder and executive producer of LearningTimes, where he produces and moderates an array of online professional development programs. He can be heard often as the host of webinars, conference and podcasts produced in close association with organizations like the American Association of Museums (AAM), Association for State and Local History (AASLH), Center for the Future of Museums (CFM), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Jonathan authored the chapter on live online outreach in the The Digital Museum: A Think Guide, published by AAM Press. His book, Learning in Real Time (Wiley/Jossey-Bass), translates over a dozen years of experience facilitating real-time online learning into a practical resource guide for anyone doing outreach online. He has produced tens of thousands of hours of live webcasts, online conferences and 3D virtual world events, including vast numbers of programs for museum professionals. The son of two New York City public school teachers, Jonathan is a Certified Synchronous Training Professional (CSTP) and received his AB degree with honors from Harvard University.
Deb Geis is a Certified Nurse Educator and has been teaching nursing at Rhodes State College in Lima, OH for over 20 years. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, IL, and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Wright State University, Dayton, OH. She also received Certification in E-Learning and Online Teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI. Deb has a passion for using technology for teaching and learning and strives to stay on the cutting edge of new strategies and tools as they become available.
David LaFontaine has more than 20 years’ experience as a journalist, editor and multimedia producer, but the last couple of years have seen him switch his focus to the impact of emerging mobile technologies on traditional media. Dave is a partner in the international consulting firm, Artesian Media, Inc. He’s also the co-author of Mobile Web Design for Dummies, and a series of case studies on mobile advertising and technology for the Newspaper Association of America and AIM Group. David’s interest in online communications dates back to the early days of Prodigy and 2400 baud modems.
Kevin Johnson is CEO of The Cutting Ed, Inc., a consulting company that specializes in helping clients envision education and training for the twenty-first century. With more than twenty years of experience working in education, he specializes in helping his clients figure out how to use technology to their advantage. Kevin is the co-author of Online Education for Dummies and The Technology Toolbelt for Teaching.
Susan Manning is a producer and event host at LearningTimes. She is a certified master online instructor who proves it every day in the virtual classroom. She teaches instructional design, technology tools and general pedagogy related to online teaching and learning. Susan poured her expertise into Online Education for Dummies and The Technology Toolbelt for Teaching with co-author Kevin Johnson.
Margaret Mellinger, is an Associate Professor in the Oregon State University Libraries, in the Emerging Technologies and Services department. She works with the web development, Library a la Carte and promotion and outreach teams. She’s been known to fall asleep with her iPhone.
Jason Rhode, Ph.D., is an experienced instructor, instructional designer, course developer, and program director with over a decade of experience in the field of online learning. He serves as the Assistant Director of the Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center at Northern Illinois University where he is responsible for developing and offering training programs and support for faculty and staff on teaching with technology and related topics, providing leadership on technology-related issues, and performing supervisory functions at the Center.
Amy Vecchione is an Assistant Professor/Librarian at Boise State University. Since 1996, Janine Warner has written more than a dozen books about the Internet, including Mobile Web Design For Dummies (Wiley, 2010), and iPhone/iPad Web Design For Dummies (in bookstores this June). She’s also the host of more than 50 hours of training videos and the creator of the web design training site www.DigitalFamily.com. Today, Janine says: “I’m fascinated by how the Internet is evolving as it becomes more ‘mobile,’ and how the touchscreen, combined with rich-interactive media, is transforming the way we teach and learn.”
Jim Yocom has been teaching people how to create effective video for over 15 years. He currently serves as Director of Instructional Media Services for Indiana University South Bend, and is active in podcasting, streaming media, and the development of multimedia content for mobile applications. Jim is a Certified Technology Specialist and an active member of the Consortium of College and University Media Centers.
Heather Zink is a full-time instructor for the School of Allied Health at Rasmussen College Online in Eden Prairie, MN. She worked in the clinical laboratory as a medical technologist for more than 7 years prior to making the jump into educating allied health professionals. She started as the Medical Lab Technician Program Coordinator at Rasmussen’s Lake Elmo, MN campus. For the past 2 years, her efforts have focused on fully online instruction where she is now the Lead Instructor for the College’s Medical Terminology course. She is currently in her fourth year with Rasmussen. Zink received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Medical Technology from Ohio Northern University and is currently working on her Master’s of Health Administration from St. Joseph’s University. Her professional interests lie in using mobile technologies, as well as a variety of voice tools, to connect with students and enhance student interactions in the online classroom. In July, 2010, she published an article in eLearn Magazine entitled “Connecting with e-Learners Through Podcasting.” She also presented at the recent 2011 Ohio Educational Technology Conference talking about her work with podcasting.
