Anyway We Can (Hybrid Instruction)

LIVE SESSION
“Anyway We Can (Hybrid Instruction)”
Leecy Wise, CDE/AEFL Four Corners Professional Dev Resource Center, USA

Date:
March 18, 2010
3:00 pm to 3:50 pm EST
(see time in other time zones)

Description:
Rural populations often have limited access to instruction by experts. The K-12 football coach may also teach math and history; the English teacher may also teach music and science; students may learn a foreign language exclusively through CD’s in poorly supervised labs; and everyone may have to teach ESL.

Access is often not very “equal” in rural areas; in fact, it may be non-existent. Hybrid instruction can offer many options to students in rural K-12 schools, adult education programs, colleges, and other groups hoping to acquire skills for future education or employment.

This session will discuss lessons learned and suggested best practices in offering hybrid instruction to two rural groups of learners: high-school Spanish students and adult education teachers in Colorado. Other programs will be referenced, as well. Instructional avenues include different combinations of face-to-face contact, onsite lab work, video and web-conferencing, CMS?s, and Web 2.0 tools.

About the Presenter:
Over 40 years teaching, administration, curriculum development and consulting. M.A. Spanish/Linguistics; additional literacy certification and post-graduate hours in adult education and technology. Coordinator, Four Corners Professional Development Resource Center for CDE/AEFL; Owner/consultant, The Reconnection Company; facilitator/instructor for CCCOnline, PBS TeacherLine, Dove Creek High School and other groups on demand.
