Description:
This presentation will provide a description and evaluation of a model for scaling hybrid courses up to large-enrollment (>100 students) science course at a large public university. The goal of this research is to identify the challenges of adapting blended learning to large-enrollment courses and to develop recommendations for implementing blended learning pedagogy on a large scale. Additional research questions addressed in this paper focus on the coordination between curriculum developers and instructors when designing and implementing blended learning in large enrollment courses and the technologies necessary to facilitate online learning to a large number of students. The curriculum design is unique in structure by leveraging web 2.0 technologies to build a community of learners around the topic of severe weather. The presentation will give an overview of the curriculum design and a summary of the evaluation of the pilot.
