Description:
We are living in the era of ICT and our students are so computer-literate that it is a shame to waste this tremendous potential. We have argued endlessly about theories and concepts like the communicative use of language, CLIL, using authentic materials, extending learning beyond class time, motivating learners, collaborative learning, promoting autonomy and self-directed learning. The advent of Web 2.0 has brought to light myriads of free web applications that we can use to enhance language learning. I will give you a user friendly overview of the use of blogs, wikis, voice and video recording tools and digital storytelling tools among others. I will show you how these applications can be used to improve language skills. We will explore practical examples of class activities and projects using these tools and you will discover how students can also develop critical thinking skills, explore their creativity and have fun!

My goodness, there was so much great information here that I was frantically taking notes until I realized I could just save your PPT. Your slide design was very cool. I cannot wait for a free afternoon to investigate all of these amazing tools you’ve shared! Thanks! – Lauri Goodling, GPC (Atlanta)
Thanks for the feedback! I know it needs re-watching to digest everything…
Same here! Thought it was great, though! Thanks for all of the information!
Vicky hello, this is a great presentation. I am curious about how many of these appliactions would you put into a 15 week course for community college students? I mention this because there is a learning curve for students.
My guess is three, maybe four or five?
Marla Mutis, Chicago
Of course it depends on their background ict knowledge and skills. If you’re starting from scratch I would say no more than four in 15 weeks.
Also, it’s a good idea to suggest their using the same username and passwaord for all applications to avoid confusion. Or they might try Open ID, which works with many apps.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for replying Vicky–great job.
Great list of resources – thank you for sharing!
Superb presentation! Both in content and form! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experiences! (It seems my problem was IE, now PPP are available unzipped, so I can see them all right – no audio, though, as you had anticipated)
Could you please confirm that you could hear the audio of the presentation as some people have been having problems with it?
Thanks,
I never heard any sound.
Very distressed about the lack of audio in the presentation. Asked the IOC team to upload a fixed version (with audio). So check later please.
